journey.

We’re expectant for how the Lord will move as we embrace the call to build the church together.

Dover

our story.

Dover Baptist Church was founded in 1863 in the Carroll community of East Texas, where a rich history of ministry continued over many decades.

The very first sermon preached at Dover Baptist Church’s first formal gathering in 1865 was based on Ephesians 2:22 which reads, “In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”

This verse echoes the resilience and fortitude that has shaped Dover.

In 2023, Grace Community Church felt a calling to plant a church campus in the same area. When Dover heard of Grace’s mission, they saw the potential of partnering together to carry on their story by placing their facilities in Grace’s care. This was the beginning of Grace’s 5th campus – Grace Community Church Dover Campus.

Together, we honor the legacy of Dover, continuing to weave a narrative of faith, growth, and discipleship. And we look toward the future with the mission of Grace: to be and make disciples where we live, work, and play.

Dover was established on a firm foundation, and we’re expectant for how the Lord will move as we embrace the call to build the church together.

Meet our pastor

Kyle Smith.

God’s grace and mercy has been a regular refrain in my life. My childhood was lived in a loving home where I was encouraged and shown how faith is lived out in daily life. I began to understand the gospel and accepted Jesus as my Savior in middle school.

I left Mineola, Texas after high school and headed to Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. After graduation, I worked as a musician in New York City. I lived “the dream” and found that it left me empty. God used circumstances and people in my life to draw me back to Him and call me into ministry.

Kristy and I moved to San Antonio where we got married and had our son, Wyatt. We came “home” to Grace in 2013 and welcomed our daughter, Mae, shortly after.

I love being active and spending time with my family, trying to make people laugh, and running with our dog through school traffic.

My desire is to follow Jesus and help others do the same. I’m excited to see what the Lord will do through the Dover campus as we trust and obey Him.
