Itโs hard to believe that Spring Break is just around the corner! No schoolwork, sleeping in, eating snacks all day, what more could a kid ask for?ย Here are a few ideas on how to keep your kids entertained with activities that they will remember:
- Dinner and a Movie
-
-
- Iโm not suggesting a normal pizza and movie night…Iโm suggesting taking it to the next level! During the day, have the kids design tickets and a poster and set up a โmovie theaterโ. Air mattresses, blankets, pillows, you name it! Have them help you come up with a menu with themed foods according to the movie. (Watching Ratatouille? Make ratatouille! Watching Cars? How about some โTow Materโs Tatersโ?). After creating this theater and feast together, cozy up in your PJs for a family movie night!
-
- Getting Outside
-
-
- Letโs have some friendly competition! Design and set up an obstacle course or scavenger hunt in your backyard. There are so many ways to be creative with this!
- What objects can you find in your house or garage to build this obstacle course? Maybe you have some pool noodles laying around or an old tire!
- Encourage siblings to make a scavenger hunt for each other OR encourage your child to create a hunt the whole family can do together on a walk through the neighborhood or just in your home.

- Make Someone Smile
-
- What are some ways you can bring a smile to someone elseโs face? Maybe itโs sending snail mail to friends and family or maybe itโs putting together some snacks for your mailman. While coming up with ideas of who to serve and what to do – memories will be made as you craft up some cards or spend some time at the store or in the kitchen!
Local Activities to Explore
If you are in the mood to get out and need some ideas we have a few great local places that your kids would enjoy!
Caldwell Zoo
This is a zoo that is right here in Tyler. It is the perfect size and can easily be done in half a day. If you are local to the area you may not even need to pack a lunch unless you want to.ย Spring break is a time when the animals are usually active if the weather is nice.
Discovery Science Place
The local children’s museum/activity center is in downtown Tyler and a great place to spend part of the day. There are hands-on activities and there is usually some kind of special exhibit.
iJump
This is a trampoline park that is located in South Tyler. If your kids are bouncing off of the walls and they need to burn that energy then check this place out.
Local Parks
Local parks are great, free, and outdoors. Pack a lunch or late afternoon snack and hang out all day.
What are some traditions or activities your family typically does for Spring Break? Whether you go on a trip or stay home all week, we pray that your family enjoys this time to be intentional and spend quality time with one another!
