As Easter approaches, what kind of preparations are you making? Have you picked out your Easter dress? Filled your kids’ baskets? Planned the after-church meal? Maybe even scheduled an Easter egg hunt? While these traditions bring joy and excitement, Easter is more than just a fun, springtime celebration—it’s the cornerstone of our Christian faith.
Just as we prepare for other important events in life, why not intentionally prepare our hearts for Easter? This is the day we celebrate Christ’s victory over sin and death through His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. How are we leading our families to reflect on the weight and wonder of this moment?
Empowered Homes provides incredible resources to help families grow in their faith together. Their latest post, Detective Devo, is an interactive Easter activity designed specifically for Holy Week. Another excellent resource is Palms to Passover, a devotional that walks families through the days leading up to Christ’s sacrifice.
One of my family’s favorite Easter traditions was reading, Benjamin’s Box alongside a set of Resurrection Eggs. Every Easter morning, we would gather to read the story, open each corresponding egg, and experience the journey of Jesus’ final days through the eyes of a child. This simple but powerful activity helped us connect with the reality of Christ’s suffering, sacrifice, and triumph over death.
Additionally, The Littles and Me offers wonderful ideas for engaging children in the Easter season. If you’re looking for a meaningful craft, try the Watercolor Cross. For older children and adults, To Build a Cross by Ryan Christian is a powerful resource. Christian shares his testimony of how building a cross for an Easter service transformed his faith, restoring his hope in Christ. The book includes an experiential study to encourage discussion and deeper engagement with Jesus.
Whatever traditions you choose this Easter; I encourage you to prepare not just for the festivities but for the profound spiritual significance of this season. Let’s make this Easter not just about the celebration but about drawing closer to the One who gave everything for us. By leading your family in intentional reflection and discipleship, you are laying faithful foundations and building a spiritual heritage that will last. How will you prepare your heart and home for Easter this year?
