Nick Zavala

I was born in Alexandria, Virginia and moved to Southern California when I was in second grade. The majority of my growing up took place in Thousand Oaks, CA. I became a follower of Christ in August of 2005 at Hume Lake Christian Camps while in jr high. Life was a rollercoaster in jr high and high school, I struggled with forgiveness of myself and God’s grace in my life. While in high school I didn’t understand how great God’s grace really is and stopped praying to God due to a feeling of unworthiness.

My life and relationship with Christ radically changed the year after I graduated high school. I attended the Joshua Wilderness Institute at Hume Lake Christian Camps in 2011-12, which is a year long discipleship program. During that year the Lord highlighted scripture to me which was Ephesians 2:1-10. Through God’s truth in scripture and a surrounding of community support the Holy Spirit developed a heart of celebration in understanding God’s grace in my life regardless of me, that while I was dead in my trespasses and sin that God forgives me through faith.

I’m currently enrolled with Liberty University Online and have been working in student ministry for 5 years and have fallen in love with this calling God has placed on my heart. In the summer of  2015 I met a beautiful southern girl who I fell in love with quickly at Hume Lake Christian Camps in California, Ashley became my wife in October of 2017. We moved to Tyler and I joined the GCC staff in October of 2019. Ashley and I don’t have kids but do have a dog named Keely who we love and tend to spoil just a bit.
