Can You Imagine?

Then an angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing at the right side of the altar of incense.12 When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.13 But the angel said to him: "Do not be afraid, Zechariah..." Luke 1:11-13a NIV

Can you imagine being Zechariah?

The Warship of God

It’s interesting how a little one-letter spelling error can really change the meaning of a word. In fact, you might have just smiled a little as you thought the title of this worship note was the result of someone’s typo. Actually, I’ve recently been reminiscing about a children’s musical we enjoyed in the early 80’s. It was entitled “Jumpin’ Jehoshaphat.” And it was all about how God sent a Hebrew worship team out ahead of the army of Judah to win an important battle.

Worship In Context Is So Important

When the pastor’s sermon contains the admonition to see a truth “in context” he means the nearby verses that explain what’s going on in the big picture; i.e. what is the setting for this statement anyway? Sort of the Who? What? When? Where? Questions. Often, the context – the setting – of a verse really helps understand and apply the Scripture to our lives.

One of the many aspects that I love about the last three months of the year is that each month has a major holiday in it. I love the holiday season because it gives me something enjoyable to look forward to every year. I guess I kind of view it as one big meal. Halloween is like having dessert before the meal, Thanksgiving is the one gigantic meal, and then Christmas is the best of both worlds.

The Spiritual Depths of "Amen"

Being a parent of a 16 month old boy has been a gracious gift from the Lord. It has changed my life forever and given me a completely different perspective on life. A typical meal time at our household will go something like this.

I Have Learned

Sun, 2011-11-13

These are some things I’ve learned through the years, others I’ve collected along the journey of life.

I’ve learned that, no matter what happens, in the coarse of my day, life does go on.
I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she handles four things: a rainy day, the elderly, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights.

I’ve learned that making a `living’ is not the same thing as living a `life.’

Develop A Life Of Worship

Worship by reading & rereading the following sayings of Jesus & then praying:

• “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
Prayer: God, reveal more of your light to me. Help me follow you out of every darkness and into your glorious light.

“WHERE THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS, THERE IS FREEDOM” 2 CORINTHIANS 3:1-18

In this passage of scripture, we find the church planter Paul encouraging the church in Corinth to live according to their new reality; namely, that disciples are free, because of Jesus, to be ministers of spirit-led life transformation. This transformation isn’t reserved for leadership. It is for all who come to worship or “behold the glory of the Lord.” As we worship, we are “being transformed into the same image (being more Jesus-like) from one degree of glory to another (each way that we join God in His mission to unbelievers).”

"How Can I, Unless Someone Guides Me?"

You may find yourself with the church on a Sunday morning listening to worship songs that others sing with conviction… but you just stand there… observing. Maybe you appreciate how others seem completely involved… but that’s just not you. Maybe you find yourself listening to scripture being explained but find it is not connecting or it doesn’t make any real sense.
